Western New England Downs Women's Ice Hockey, 6-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey team fell to host Western New England, 6-2, in a non-conference game at the Olympia Ice Center Friday night. The Bantams move to 6-9-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears sit at 10-6 overall.
 
What Happened:
  • Western New England struck first, capitalizing on a power play opportunity less than eight minutes into the first period. The Golden Bears won the draw in the Bantams zone, and Bantams goaltender Kathrine Lemke denied the initial shot from Maddie Pope, but Pope was able to put back the rebound to give WNE a 1-0 lead.
  • Just over five minutes into the second period, the Golden Bears seized the lead with a pair of goals from Katie Collins in a minute span to extend the advantage to 3-0.
  • Nani Keyes potted the first goal of the day for the Bantams with 10:27 remaining in the second period, and then Gabriela Gross delivered an unassisted tally with 5:10 on the clock to close the gap to 3-2.
  • With 26 seconds remaining in the second, Jenna Lynch placed a shot past Lemke to rebuild a 4-2 lead for the Golden Bears heading to the final period.
  • Western New England kept Trinity at bay with goals from Zoe Galanoudis and another strike from Pope to grab the 6-2 win.
