HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team blanked visiting Western Connecticut State University, 8-0, in a non-conference game at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Sunday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Wolves slide to 1-11 overall.
What Happened:
- The Bantams wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as transfer Nolan Hayes snuck a wrist shot from the point past WestConn goalie Malte Hedlund to hand Trinity the 1-0 lead.
- Less than a minute later, Spencer Korona won a faceoff in the WestConn zone, Ian Spencer grabbed the draw and fed a quick pass to Brendan Dumas for the finish to make it a 2-0 game.
- In the fifth minute of play, Ryan Friedman beat Hedlund on a redirect in front of the net, followed by a powerplay tally from Connor Sedlak late in the period, to put Trinity ahead 4-0 after the first.
- Two minutes into the second, Joseph Harney connected with Ryan Panico on a long pass through the neutral zone for a top shelf finish. Korona took a drop pass from Friedman and tucked a wrister through traffic to put the Bantams on top 6-0 after two periods.
- Midway through the third period, Weston Turner spotted Panico in the neutral zone, and Panico dragged a wrist shot into the top corner to make it 5-0. Trinity's final strike came on a powerplay goal from Jakob Karpa with less than three minutes to play, sealing the 8-0 victory.
