MEDFORD, Mass. – The Trinity College women's volleyball team opened Friday evening's New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup with a tightly contested 26-24 first-set victory over Tufts University inside Cousens Gymnasium. Despite taking the opening set, the Bantams were unable to hold off the Jumbos, falling in four sets (26-24, 10-25, 15-25, 4-25).
The Bantams fall to 10-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Jumbos improve to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the NESCAC.
How It Happened
- Set One – Trinity, 26-24: The Bantams opened the match with 13 kills on 36 attempts, posting a .194 hitting percentage compared to Tufts' .114. Trinity capitalized on eight Jumbo attack errors to secure the opening set in extra points.
- Set Two – Tufts, 25-10: The Jumbos responded in the second set, tallying 15 kills with just one error on 21 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. Trinity was held to three kills and a -.063 hitting percentage as Tufts evened the match at 1-1.
- Set Three – Tufts, 25-15: Trinity registered eight kills in the third set but was held to a .000 hitting percentage. The Jumbos tallied nine kills while hitting .105 to take a 2-1 advantage.
- Set Four – Tufts, 25-4: The Bantams struggled offensively in the final set, registering three kills and nine errors for a -.273 hitting percentage. Tufts closed out the match with eight kills and no errors on 16 attempts, posting a .500 hitting percentage to secure the 3-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Sophomore Emma Ewart led the Bantams with eight kills and a match-high 15 digs.
- Annette Schlunk and Maya Hall each registered four kills, while Amy Boller added four kills and five digs.
- Trinity Fore tallied three kills and recorded one solo block, while Chloe Gentile added two block assists.
- Catalina Hendricks dished out a team-high 16 assists while adding seven digs, while Maya Pace registered five assists.
- Senior Scarlett Jago added seven digs, two assists and one service ace.
- Trinity finished with 27 kills, 26 assists, 44 digs, four service aces and three total blocks.
