Kelleher Lifts Women's Soccer To 2-1 Win at Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team defeated host Connecticut College, 2-1, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Silfen Track & Field Tuesday night. The Bantams elevates to 6-5-2, and 3-5-1 in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 6-6-1, and 2-5-1 in conference.

What Happened:
  • The goalkeepers stepped up early in the contest as Conn College keeper Maia Kafer denied Ashley McSweeney in the sixth minute, followed by a stop from Bantam goalie Zoe Tamborello less than a minute later to keep the game at 0-0.
  • The Bantams dealt the first strike in the 16th minute as a Camels goal kick was knocked down by the wind, landing at the feet of Iva Carton 10 yards outside the box. Carton broke towards goal and worked a pass to Caroline Kelleher in front of the net, who played the ball back to Taylor Troskey, who curled a left foot strike into the upper 90, giving Trinity the 1-0 lead.
  • With less than 11 minutes remaining in the second half, the Camels found the equalizer as Morgan Lovell headed the ball towards the Bantams goal from midfield, which allowed Danica Zicha to race past the Trinity defense and place a shot past Tamborello to even things at 1-1.
  • In the 83rd minute, the Bantams capitalized on another short goal kick as Kelleher gathered the ball, navigated around a trio of Conn defenders and chipped a left-footed game-winner of the head of Kafer, sending Trinity to the 2-1 victory.
