Late Goal by No.22 Bates Claims Win over Trinity, 1-0 Final

LEWISTON, Maine – The Trinity College field hockey team battled No. 22 Bates College through nearly 60 minutes of scoreless action Saturday morning at Campus Avenue Field before the Bobcats found the back of the cage with just 37 seconds remaining, handing the Bantams a heartbreaking 1-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) loss.
The Bantams move to 5-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Bobcats improve to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the NESCAC.

How It Happened
  • Bates applied pressure early, earning a pair of penalty corners in the opening minute, but Trinity goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz turned away the Bobcats' first shot on goal. Claire Griffith answered with Trinity's first opportunity in the ninth minute, forcing a save from Bates goalkeeper Ava Donohue.
  • The Bantams generated a pair of penalty corners in the second quarter, with Tatum Stickney placing a shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but Donohue kept the game scoreless heading into halftime.
  • Trinity's offense picked up in the third quarter, outshooting Bates 4-4 with three shots landing on goal. Riley Harrington, Nina Falkson and Aly Janssen each tested Donohue, but the Bobcats' goalkeeper denied all three opportunities.
  • The defensive battle continued deep into the fourth quarter as neither side was able to break through. With just 37 seconds remaining, Bates' Amy LaBelle scored off an assist from Caroline Nowak to break the scoreless tie and secure the 1-0 victory for the Bobcats.
