Field Hockey Falls in Overtime Heartbreaker to Connecticut College, 1-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team battled through 60 minutes of scoreless action against the Connecticut College Camels Wednesday evening at Silfen Field. Despite outshooting the Camels 12-7 and holding a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners, the Bantams were unable to find the back of the cage. Connecticut College broke the scoreless tie in overtime, handing Trinity a heartbreaking 1-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) loss.

The Bantams fall to 5-6 overall and 1-6 in conference play, while the Camels improve to 3-6 overall and 1-6 in the NESCAC.

How It Happened
  • The Bantams came out strong in the opening quarter, outshooting Connecticut College 4-1 while earning five penalty corners. Senior Fiona Murphy registered three shots, placing two on goal, while senior Brooke DiBiase added another shot on target. Despite Trinity's offensive pressure, the Camels kept the contest scoreless.
  • Trinity continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, registering three shots and two penalty corners. Connecticut College responded with three shots of its own, forcing junior Sydney Korkosz to make back-to-back saves in the 26th minute to preserve the scoreless tie heading into halftime.
  • The Bantams controlled the offensive opportunities in the third quarter, holding the Camels without a shot while registering three of their own. Junior Riley Harrington accounted for all three Trinity attempts, each landing on goal, but Connecticut College goalkeeper Isabella Carnall denied every opportunity.
  • Both teams battled through the final 15 minutes of regulation, with Trinity adding two shots and two penalty corners. Junior Julia Lambert tested Carnall late in the quarter, but the Camels held strong defensively to force overtime.
  • Connecticut College broke through in the sixth minute of overtime as Elizabeth Bonner netted the game-winning goal at the 65:23 mark, securing the 1-0 victory for the Camels.
