Men's Soccer Blanks Bates, 1-0

LEWISTON, Maine – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team defeated host Bates College, 1-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at the Russell Street Track & Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 6-3 overall, and 2-3 in conference, while the Bobcats dip to 4-3-1 and 1-2-1 on the season. With six wins, the Bantams have reach a new single-season high under Head Coach Methembe Ndlovu, and have their most wins in a season since 2017.

What Happened:
  • The Bantams tried to strike early but came up empty on a pair of back-to-back corner kicks in the fourth minute of action.
  • Trinity put up a barrage of shots midway through the first half, but attempts from Trevor Saruwaka and Cameron Linehan were blocked, and then a strike from Sebastian Martinez-Moule sailed wide, keeping the game scoreless heading into halftime.
  • After coming up empty on a pair of corner kicks early in the half, the Bantams broke through in the 61st minute as Martinez-Moule sent a corner into the box, where Silas Lawrence put a header that was blocked, but Charles Desautels fired home the loose ball, giving Trinity the 1-0 lead.
  • The Bantams dominated play down the stretch, limiting the Bobcats to just one shot over the final 30 minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.
