WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – In a crosstown battle with the University of Hartford, the Trinity College Women's Soccer team defeated the host 19th-ranked Hawks, 1-0, in a non-conference tilt at Al-Marzook Field Tuesday night. The Bantams rise to 4-4-1, while dealing UHart (7-1-1) their first loss of the season.
What Happened:
- The Bantams applied pressure in the first half with Kyra Charette putting a free kick on frame, along with an Iva Carton header off a corner that was denied by Hartford keeper Madelyn Nunnemacher to preserve the scoreless match.
- Nunnemacher turned away attempts from Addie Covey and Emma Almoney late in the first half to maintain a 0-0 scoreboard at the break.
- The Bantams came up empty on a quartet of corner kicks early in the second stanza, while Nunnemacher stopped shots from Charette and Sophia Simmons with 26 minutes to play.
- In the 67th minute, Ashley McSweeney dropped a throw-in at the feet of Caroline Kelleher, who turned and raced to the goal line. Just before the ball went out of bounds, Kelleher curled a pass to the front, and Carton tucked a shot past the reach of Nunnemacher, giving Trinity the 1-0 lead.
- Trinity goalkeeper Zoe Tamborello made a trio of saves down the stretch to produce her second clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 victory.
