Bantams Peck Their Way to a Sweep over Blue Jays, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's volleyball team secured the win in a straight-set sweep over The University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays Wednesday evening inside Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams came out the gate strong, and although the Blue Jays flustered the Bantams in set two, Trinity controlled the duration of the match with scores of 25-13, 28-26, 25-10.

Trinity improves to 10-4 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while USJ falls to 8-7 overall. 

How It Happened

  • Set One – Trinity, 25-13: The Bantams opened the match with 13 kills on 31 attempts for a .156 hitting percentage. Trinity's defense held USJ to only one kill with 6 errors as the Blue Jays finished the opening frame with a -.192 hitting percentage.
  • Set Two – Trinity, 28-26: Trinity continued into the second frame strong, tallying 12 kills to the Blue Jays zero. Despite the trading of points between the Bantams and the Blue Jays that extended the set past regulation, Trinity was able to regain control, winning the set with a -.019 hitting percentage to USJ's .000 hitting percentage. 
  • Set Three – Trinity, 25-10: The Bantams tucked the Blue Jays away in the final set, recording 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .297 to USJ's 5 kills with a -.079 hitting percentage. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore Emma Ewart led the Bantams offensively with 11 kills on 26 attempts, with 9 digs and one service ace. 
  • Junior Amy Boller added 7 kills with 8 digs and one assist
  • Senior Scarlett Jago recorded a match-high 22 digs while also dishing out two assists.
  • Catalina Hendricks dished out a team-high 17 assists and four kills, while Maya Pace added 9 assists.
  • Bella Nash tallied 6 service aces as Trinity finished with 9 total aces in the match.
  • Trinity finished with 39 kills, 36 assists, 72 digs, nine service aces and two total blocks.

The Bantams hit the road on Friday, October 9, for a NESCAC meeting against Tufts University, who are receiving votes in the national rankings, at 6:00 pm.
