Senior Day Shutout: Women’s Ice Hockey Tops Cardinals 2–0, Clinches Playoff Spot

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Day was a success for the Trinity College women's ice hockey team as the Bantams skated to a 2–0 victory over visiting Wesleyan University on Friday evening in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

With the win, Trinity improves to 7–13–3 overall and 3–9–3 in conference play clinching a spot in the 2026 NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey playoffs, while the Cardinals fall to 6–15–2 (3–11–1 NESCAC).

Prior to puck drop, the Bantams honored five seniors — including team manager Ava Gosnell — along with Annabelle Merkel, Lillian Cassidy, Livia Angioletti, and Eli Garcia.

How It Happened

  • Trinity broke through in the opening period with a power-play goal from senior Livia Angioletti. Positioned just outside the right circle, Angioletti rifled a shot into the top-left corner to give the Bantams a 1–0 lead. Meena Al-Kadiri and Mikayla Murray were credited with assists as Trinity carried the advantage into the second frame.
  • The second period featured three Wesleyan penalties, granting Trinity six minutes of power-play time. Despite sustained pressure and an 11–4 shot advantage in the frame, the Bantams were unable to convert. Junior goaltender Madeline Carter remained steady between the pipes, preserving the shutout.
  • Just 18 seconds into a Wesleyan power play in the third period, senior Lillian Cassidy delivered a momentum-shifting play. Cassidy picked off a Cardinals skater in Trinity's offensive zone and skated in alone, slipping a shot just under the pads of Wesleyan goalie Jenna Guglielmi for a short-handed goal and a 2–0 lead.
  • With over 10 minutes remaining, Trinity continued to press offensively but ultimately secured the 2–0 Senior Day victory — clinching a spot in the 2026 NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
  • Carter was stellar in net, stopping all 11 shots she faced to earn the shutout.
