Women's Basketball Falls to Williams, 75-55, in NESCAC Quarterfinals

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-seeded Trinity College Women's Basketball team fell to visiting fifth-seed Williams College, 75-55, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams sit at 16-9 overall, while the Ephs rise to 13-12 on the season.
 
What Happened:
  • Trailing 4-2 after the opening minutes, the Bantams rattled off an 8-2 run, powered by five points from Lucy Dorion, to grab a 10-6 lead. Kiki Fossbender knocked down three straight jumpers, followed by a bucket from Avery Marzo to give Trinity the 18-13 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • Baskets from Fossbender, Marzo and Marlo Simms helped the Bantams maintain a 24-21 edge with 4:37 on the clock. After a three-point play from Simms gave Trinity the 31-27 lead, Williams closed the half on a 6-2 run to knot the score at 33-33 at the break.
  • The Ephs created separation in the third quarter, utilizing an 11-3 run to kick off the frame, en route to a 44-36 lead. Logan Costed netted five points for Williams to push the Ephs advantage to 52-42 with 3:03 left in the third. Williams took a 56-45 lead into the final quarter.
  • After a pair of free throws from Dorion trimmed the gap to 58-49 at the 8:53 mark, the Ephs pulled away with a 12-2 run over the next five minutes, extending the lead to 70-51. Williams held the Bantams to four points over the final minutes to wrap the 75-55 win.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams shot 31.7% (20-of-63) from the field, 11.8% (2-of-17) from three-point range, and 76.5% (13-of-17) from the free throw line.
  • The Ephs converted 47.4% (27-of-57) from the floor, including 55.6% (5-of-9) from three-point, and 72.7% (16-of-22) from the foul line.

  • Marzo led the Bantams offense with a team-high 14 points with four rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.
  • Fossbender netted 12 points off the bench with two rebounds and an assist, while Dorion notched 11 points. Simms grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds with eight points.
  • Williams had four scorers in double figures, paced by a game-high 21 points from Costner. Micah Walton added 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, Kathleen Smith tallied a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while Hanorah Murphy had 10 points and five rebounds.
