NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Sweet Sixteen Preview

HARTFORD, Conn. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team will welcome Hood College to Ray Oosting Gymnasium for the Sweet Sixteen round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament on Saturday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m.
 
Bantam Bytes:
  • The Bantams (27-2) have reached the Sweet Sixteen for the third straight season, and fourth time in program history (1995, 2024, 2025, 2026).
  • The back-to-back NESCAC Champions grabbed comeback victories over Keuka College (74-63) and Babson College (71-61) in the First and Second Round, respectively.
  • The Bantams checked in at #1 in the latest edition of the D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll.
  • Nationally, Trinity owns the highest scoring margin (24.4) and the third-ranked scoring defense, limiting opponents to 59.0 points per game.
  • The Bantams rank fourth in the Country in field goal defense (.379) and tenth in steals per game (12.0).
  • Trinity led the NESCAC in scoring (83.4), scoring margin, field goal percentage (.468), offensive rebounding (14.1), turnover margin (8.72), assist-turnover ratio (1.47), total steals (349), and steals per game.
  • Henry Vetter delivered a pair of 20-point performances in the opening rounds to bump his average to 14.6 points per game with 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 steals.
  • Jarrel Okorougo is posting a career-high 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, while shooting 48.3% from the field with 38 steals and 22 blocks.
  • Drew Lazarre led the league in steals (68) and steals per game (2.3), while tallying 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game with 68 assists and 21 blocks. Lazarre shot 42.1% from the field, including 37.1% from three-point range.
  • Jared Berry is generating 10.1 points and 4.3 rebounds off the bench, shooting 44.7% from the floor.
  • David Ayles is adding 6.7 points and 2.8 assists per game with 57 steals, while Tristan Davis is connecting on a team-high 64.2% from the floor, notching 7.2 points and 5.1 boards per contest with a team-high 25 blocks.
 
 
Scouting Hood:
  • The Blazers (26-3) are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including their third trip since 2022, and their first trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
  • Hood College defeated Vassar (84-71) and ninth-ranked University of Redlands (114-104) in the opening rounds of the Tournament.
  • The Blazers were voted at #16 in the latest edition of the D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll.
  • The Blazers finished first in the Middle Atlantic Conference-Commonwealth (MACC) with a record of 13-1.
  • Offensively, Hood ranks fourth in the Nation in scoring offense (95.9), having logged 12 games with 100+ points.
  • Nationally, the Blazers rank seventh in field goal percentage (.495), 11th in assists (18.0) and rebounding margin (9.0), and 13th in scoring margin (13.8).
  • Hood led the MACC conference in scoring, scoring margin, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage (.367), free throw percentage (.791), rebounding (43.9), and assists.
  • The Blazers defense allows the fourth-most points in the MACC (82.1) with opponents shooting a league-low 42.1% from the field and 32.7% from three-point range.
  • Hood posted the second-most turnovers in the league (398) with a -1.41 turnover margin on the season.
  • Jevon Yarbrough, the MAC-Commonwealth Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, leads the conference in scoring (25.9), assists (6.5) and minutes (35.9), while shooting 53.6% from the field, 39.9% from beyond the arc, and 88.1% from the foul line.
  • Kullen Robinson earned Second Team All-Conference honors after averaging 16.9 points, on a team-high 55.3 field goal percentage, and  5.9 rebounds.
  • Jude Huseby, a Second Team All-Conference honoree, ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding (8.2) with 12.0 points, connecting at a .516 clip from the floor, and 2.6 assists.
  • Garrett Cox ranks seventh in the league in rebounding (7.9) and eighth in blocks (0.7), while adding 12.5 points.
  • Troy Fulton and Karron Mallory serve as long-range threats, shooting 42.9% and 39.9% from three-point, respectively.
