YORK, Pa. – The Trinity College women's lacrosse team fell in a non-conference double-overtime thriller, 12-11, to host York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Bantams move to 4-2 on the season, while York improves to 5-1.
How it Happened:
- Trinity trailed by one goal after the opening quarter, 3-2. Kelsey Restivo accounted for both Bantam scores, first converting on an assist from Alex Lesko at the 8:08 mark before adding an unassisted goal in the final minute of the frame.
- The Bantams continued to battle in the second quarter, tying the game twice. Lily Acerra opened the period with a free-position goal during a player-up opportunity, but York's Kiera McPhillips answered to restore the Spartans' lead, 4-3. Restivo completed her hat trick just three minutes later, finishing a player-up opportunity with an assist from Sarah Marvin to even the score at 4-4.
- Marvin and Maggie Slimbaugh added unassisted goals as Trinity capitalized on player-up situations, with Marvin recording the Bantams' third and final player-up goal of the contest. Trinity carried that momentum into halftime, taking a 6-4 lead.
- York surged ahead in the third quarter, outshooting Trinity 10-3 and scoring six times. Grace Denious netted the Bantams' lone goal of the period early on, but the Spartans responded with a five-goal run to take a 10-7 advantage into the final quarter.
- Trinity mounted a comeback in the fourth. Denious opened the scoring, but York answered to extend its lead to 11-8 with 8:06 remaining. Restivo sparked the rally with her fourth goal at the 5:05 mark, then assisted on a Denious strike two minutes later to pull within one, 11-10.
- In the final minute, York threatened to add an insurance goal, but Krista Yarusso's shot sailed high. Sam Hark secured the ground ball, and after a timeout, Trinity capitalized as Acerra scored the equalizer with 19 seconds remaining off an assist from Denious, forcing overtime.
First Overtime
Trinity's defense held strong despite early back-to-back green cards issued to June Trodden and Denious, giving York a two-player advantage. The Spartans were unable to convert, thanks in part to goalkeeper Alison MacDougall, who made two key saves, including one on a free-position attempt. Restivo registered Trinity's lone shot of the period, but neither side found the back of the net.
Second Overtime
The Bantams were unable to generate an offensive opportunity in the second overtime. York eventually secured the win in the final minute, as Riley Coltenback converted on a free-position attempt to seal the 12-11 victory.
