2026 Softball Season Preview

| By:
HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College softball team will open its 2026 campaign at THE Spring Games with a non-conference season opener against the University of Maine-Farmington on Sunday, March 15. The Bantams last faced the Beavers in 2019, earning an 8-0 victory. Trinity holds a 2-0 all-time record in the series.

Looking Back at 2025

The Bantams finished the 2025 season with an 11-23 overall record and a 4-14 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. With both starting pitchers — Kaysen Shikar '26 and Heather Roth '27 — sidelined for the entire season due to injury, Trinity relied on a tight pitching rotation featuring Zofia Sargent '27 and Annie Konieczka '27.

Offensively, the Bantams posted a team OPS of .792, highlighted by a .420 slugging percentage and a .372 on-base percentage. Trinity scored 163 runs and totaled 46 doubles, 16 triples, and 13 home runs.

The Bantams graduated four seniors: graduate student Kennedy Rogers and seniors Taylor Mikolajczak, Erin Steed, and Hannah Mullaney.

Postseason accolades highlighted the year, as shortstop Taylor Mikolajczak '25 earned NESCAC First Team All-Conference honors, finishing her collegiate career as one of the most decorated players in program history. Graduate students Kennedy Rogers and Mikolajczak, along with Zofia Sargent '27, Emily Goddard '27, and Makenna True '27, were also recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors.

2026 Roster Outlook

The Bantams will be led by junior Makenna True and senior Kaysen Shikar. This year's roster features six first-years, one sophomore, seven juniors, and five seniors.

Head Coach Lena Springer enters her third season at the helm with a 35-38 record. She is joined by assistant coaches Kaitlin Paterson (third year) and Gabriella Garcia (first year).

"We're really excited about the depth and experience we have returning, especially in the circle with Kaysen Shikar and Heather Roth. They bring poise and competitiveness to our pitching staff and give us a strong foundation. Our junior class also has significant game experience and understands what it takes to compete at a high level. When you combine that leadership with a talented first-year group that has already made strides this offseason, we feel this team has the right mix. The work they've put in throughout the offseason and preseason has been intentional, and we're excited to see what they can do together." – Lena Springer Head Softball Coach
