HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team overcame a six-run rally from visiting Western Connecticut State to defeat the Wolves, 11-10, in a non-conference battle at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 9-3 overall, while WestConn sits at 4-9 on the year.
What Happened:
- Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Bantams grabbed the lead as Andrew Park tattooed a solo home run over the right field fence, followed by RBI knocks from Cole Mascolo and Jake Goldshore, to put Trinity ahead 3-1.
- The Wolves took a 4-3 in the fifth with Anthony Marsala scoring on a fielding error and Thomas Keoug delivering a two-run double to left-center.
- The Bantams took the lead back in the sixth as Mascolo blasted a two-run home run to right field, Brett Stone scored on an error and Aidan Stevenson added an RBI single to give Trinity the 7-4 lead.
- WestConn erupted for six runs in the eighth to regain the lead with two runs scoring on a bases loaded walk and an error, followed by a three-run home run from Keoug to put the Wolves ahead 10-7.
- Trinity chipped away at the deficit with an RBI single from Tyler Bernstein and a bases loaded walk from Dylan Schnitzer in the bottom of the frame, setting the score at 10-9.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Luis Saldivia delivered a pinch-hit RBI double to knot the game at 10-10, and then came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Park, sending Trinity to the 11-10 win.
Inside the Boxscore:
- The Bantams plated 11 runs on 17 hits, including six extra-base hits, while the Wolves generated 10 runs on eight hits.
- Trinity generated five stolen bases.
- Park went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Mascolo drove in three runs on two hits with two runs scored.
- Stone added three knocks with two runs scored, and Goldshore and Stevenson were both 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Tyler Fahey (2-0) earned the win in relief, firing a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning. Starter Quintin Sotero allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits with a strikeout in four-plus innings, and John Sharkey logged three punchouts in an inning of work.\
