Baseball Falls to Brandeis, 6-2

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team suffered a 6-2 loss to visiting Brandeis University in a non-conference clash at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Bantams move to 2-1, while the Judges rise to 5-0.
 
What Happened:
  • In the bottom of the second, Will Sawyer drew a leadoff HBP, then stole second and come home on an RBI groundout from Luis Saldivia to stake the Bantams to a 1-0 lead.
  • The Judges responded in the top of the third, plating five runs in the inning. Keith Lee knocked an RBI double down the left field line, and then scored on an RBI double from Henry Aronwald. Matt Chafin delivered a two-run triple, and came home on a sac fly from Quinn Lanagan to give Brandeis the 5-1 advantage.
  • Aronwald tacked on an RBI single in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 6-1.
  • The Bantams final run was plated on an RBI single from Tyler Bernstein.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams tallied two runs on three hits in the game, while the Judges registered six runs on seven hits.
  • Aidan Stern went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Bernstein and Dylan Schnitzer added hits.
  • Aronwald led the Judges at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Chafin added two hits and two RBIs.
  • Brendan Grady (0-1) allowed four runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Andruw Perez, Pete Murphy, Matthew Limongelli, Quintin Sotero and Tyler Fahey combined to surrender one hit over the final five innings out of the Bantams bullpen.
  • Andrew Tringe (1-0) earned the win, giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
 
Up Next:
  • The Bantams will return to the diamond when they host a non-conference doubleheader against MIT (0-2) on March 7 at 11:00 a.m.
  • Trinity is looking for their first win over MIT since the 2019 season. The Engineers took their last meeting, 8-6, during the 2023 season.
