HARTFORD, Conn. -– The 21st Ranked Trinity College Women's Lacrosse Team took down Union College 11-6 in their home opener Wednesday night on Robin L. Sheppard Field. The Bantams move to 2-0 while the Garnet Chargers fall to 0-1.
Game Summary
1st Quarter
- After a slow start for both teams, Alex Lesko found a cutting Kaeley Zito with under 6 minutes left in the first for the game's opening goal.
- Grace Denious and Charlotte Troy would tack on two more in the following 60 seconds to blossom the lead .
- With less than two minutes remaining Union netted their first goal on a free position to cut the deficit 3-1.
- Ali MacDougall wiped the previous play and turned away the following free position attempt to end the quarter.
2nd Quarter
- As both teams continued to play in transition, Union began to claw back scoring four straight goals to take the lead.
- Kaeley Zito's backhanded flip shot hit the post and led to a Union transition goal as the Bantams found themselves trailing 4-3.
- Alex Lesko answered with a free position goal of her own to tie the game at 4-apiece going into halftime.
3rd Quarter
- The Bantams came out on fire to start the second half as Grace Denious netted her second goal of the game off a free position.
- Dodging goals by Alex Lesko and Kaeley Zito further extended the lead before Sarah Marvin crashed the net on a free position goal to put Trinity ahead 8-4.
4th Quarter
- The surge continued as Charlotte Troy quickly ignited the break with beautiful ball movement leading to Lesko's third goal of the game.
- With seven minutes remaining Union scored two quick goals to keep them in range down 9-6.
- A seemingly errant pass from Caroline Lally somehow found the back of the net for another goal before first-year Lily Acerra ripped the dagger, putting the final score at 11-6 Trinity.
Notable Performances
Grace Denious (2g, 2a) and Alex Lesko (3g, 1a) led the Trinity offense with four points each alongside Kaeley Zito who produced 3 points (2g, 1a). Zito and June Trodden helped win the draw control battle for the Bants while Sydney Aitkenhead, Emily Ambrozy, and Kelsey Restivo scooped up four ground balls each. Sam Hark caused three turnovers with Aitkenhead, Trodden, and Troy each causing two of their own. Ali MacDougal recorded 10 saves in net to secure a 2-0 start.

The Bantams will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when Bates College travels to Hartford for a NESCAC matchup. Trinity is 20-1 all time versus Bates with their only loss coming in 2014.
