Hat-Trick From Zito Boosts Bantams over Bates, 9-5

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Kaeley Zito recorded a hat trick to lead the Trinity College women's lacrosse team to a 9–5 victory over visiting Bates College Saturday afternoon in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) showdown.

With the win, the Bantams improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bobcats fall to 2-3 (0-2 NESCAC).

How It Happened

  • Senior captain Kaeley Zito and junior Kelsey Restivo sparked Trinity early with a three-goal run. Zito netted the opening goal before assisting Restivo to give the Bantams a 2-0 lead at the 9:11 mark of the first quarter. Restivo then converted on a free-position attempt with 7:52 remaining to extend the lead to 3-0 heading into the second quarter.

  • Bates got on the board when Laci Raveis converted a free-position attempt at 6:20 of the second quarter.

  • Trinity regained its three-goal advantage just before halftime when Grace Denious finished a free-position opportunity to make it 4-1 at the break.

  • The lone goal of the third quarter came from Lauren Wong of Bates, who slipped a shot past Trinity goalkeeper Alison MacDougall, cutting the deficit in half as the Bantams carried a 4-2 lead into the final frame.

  • The fourth quarter opened with a quick exchange of goals. Zito scored her second of the day just 20 seconds into the period, but Caroline Keating answered 40 seconds later with an unassisted tally to bring the Bobcats within two goals for the third time in the contest.

  • At 13:18, Sally Brunelle netted her second goal of the season off a feed from Zito to push the Trinity lead back to three.

  • Bates added two more goals down the stretch, but the Bantams responded with three of their own — including two during player-up opportunities. Trinity's final tallies came from Alex Lesko (7:07, player-up), Zito, and Caroline Lally, who capped the scoring with 33 seconds remaining for Trinity's third player-up goal of the game.
