HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team held off visiting Bowdoin College, 9-5, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Friday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 15-6 overall, and 3-1 in NESCAC play, while the Polar Bears dip to 10-12, 2-5 on the season.
What Happened:
- The Polar Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as Liam Foley knocked an RBI single up the middle. In the bottom of the frame, the Bantams loaded the bases with no outs where Andrew Park lifted an RBI sac fly to centerfield and Dylan Schnitzer belted an RBI single through the left side to put Trinity ahead 2-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Tyler Bernstein launched an opposite field two-run home run to left field, extending the Bantams lead to 4-1. Trinity posted another crooked number in the bottom of the fifth with an Aidan Stern RBI double, an RBI flare to right field from Luis Saldivia, an RBI double from Pete Beisel, and an RBI single from Bernstein to extend the advantage to 8-1
- In the home half of the sixth, Schnitzer plated Bernstein with an RBI single through the left side. The Polar Bears looked to rally in the eighth on a three-run home run from Will Bordes and a bases loaded walk to Reuben Siegel to trim the deficit to 9-5.
Inside the Boxscore:
- The Bantams plated nine runs on 15 hits with six extra-base hits including five doubles, while the Polar Bears managed five runs on five hits.
- Trinity logged six stolen bases and Bowdoin swiped three bases.
- Bernstein and Stern led the way at the dish with three hits apiece. Bernstein drove in three runs, scored twice and stole a base, while Stern added an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Schnitzer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Beisel added two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run. Saldivia and Park tallied an RBI and a run scored each.
- Joe Capano (2-0) collected his second win of the season, allowing one unearned run on four hits in seven innings of work. Tyler Fahey helped close the door the Bowdoin comeback with a scoreless ninth inning.
