Baseball Splits With Bowdoin on Senior Day

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Bowdoin College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) doubleheader at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams were edged out 6-5 in the opener, and then rolled to a 10-6 win in game two. Trinity rises to 17-7, 4-2, while the Polar Bears move to 11-13, and 3-6 in conference.

What Happened:
  • Prior to the twinbill, the Bantams honored their departing Class of 2026: Tyler Bernstein, Joe Capano, Cole Mascolo, Andrew Park, William Sawyer and Dylan Schnitzer.
  • In the opener, the Polar Bears plated three runs in the top of the first, capitalizing on a bases loaded walk to Wim Nook, and then two runs coming home on a fielder's choice and an error to hand Bowdoin the 3-0 lead.
  • Trinity worked at the deficit in the bottom of the second behind an RBI single from Tyler Bernstein and an RBI fielder's choice from Aidan Stern to make it a 3-2 game.
  • The Polar Bears answered in the top of the third with an RBI triple from Tommy O'Donnell, followed by an overturned call at first base that resulted in another run for the Polar Bears to regain a 5-2 advantage. Will Cooke added an RBI ground out in the fourth to set the score at 6-2.
  • The Bantams battled back in the bottom of the fourth as Aidan Stevenson laced a two-run double down the left line, and then scored on an RBI double from Park to close the gap to 6-5. Trinity stranded a runner on third in the final frame as Bowdoin grabbed the 6-5 victory.
  • The Trinity bats struck early in the nightcap as the Bantams took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI fielder's choice from Stevenson, back-to-back RBI singles from Schnitzer and Timothy Domizio, and then Luis Saldivia plated Schnitzer on an RBI groundout.
  • Will Bordes led off the fourth inning with a triple, and then came home on an RBI groundout from O'Donnell to cut the lead to 4-1. The Bantams responded in the home half of the inning with RBI bases loaded walks to Stern and Stevenson to rebuild a 6-1 edge. Cole Mascolo tacked on an RBI single to help Trinity to a 7-1 lead.
  • The Polar Bears used a two-run double from Conor Moriarty to trim the Bantams lead to 7-3 in the sixth.
  • Domizio tacked on an RBI sac fly in the sixth, followed by a two-run home run from Pete Beisel in the seventh to pad the lead to 10-3. Bowdoin threatened in the top of the ninth with a trio of runs, but Tyler Fahey slammed the door with a game-ending double play to seal the 10-6 win.
