Baseball Drops Opener at Tufts, 4-1

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Trinity College Baseball team fell to host Tufts University, 4-1, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Sol Gittleman Field Friday afternoon. The Bantams move to 22-9 on the season, and 7-3 in conference play, while the Jumbos sit at 23-8 and 7-3 in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  • After two scoreless innings, the Jumbos took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third behind an RBI double from James Henshon and an RBI single from Jack Kamin.
  • The Bantams had runners in scoring position in the second, fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to bring them home.
  • In the home half of the sixth, Owen McKiernan delivered an RBI double, and then scored on an RBI single from AJ Seidel, to push Tufts to a 4-0 edge.
  • Cole Mascolo knocked a one-out double to right-center, and then touched home on an RBI single from Tyler Bernstein to trim the gap to 4-1. The Tufts bullpen held the Bantams hitless over their final 10 batters with five strikeouts to secure the victory.
 
Inside the Boxscore:
  • Trinity managed one run on nine hits with two extra-base hits, while Tufts plated four runs on 11 hits with an error.
  • Bernstein, Mascolo and Luis Saldivia tallied two hits apiece. Aidan Stern reached base three times, while Dylan Schnitzer and Andrew Park both went 1-for-4 on the day.
  • Joe Capano (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts in an complete game effort.

  • The Bantams and Jumbos will return to Sol Gittleman Park for a NESCAC doubleheader to determine the top seed in the East Division for the NESCAC Baseball Championship Tournament.
