HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Softball squad split with visiting Bowdoin College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) doubleheader at the Trinity Softball Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams dropped the opener, 5-4, before defeating the Polar Bears, 8-3, in the nightcap. Trinity moves to 17-11 overall and 8-6 in conference play, while Bowdoin holds a 26-7 record with a 10-6 mark in NESCAC play.
What Happened:
- Prior to the game, the Bantams Softball program honored their departing Class of 2026: Abigail Alper, Annika Haley, Mikayla O'Brien, Lizzie Nelson and Kaysen Shikar.
- In game one, the Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Anika Ewert tripled to left-center, and then scored on a wild pitch. The Bantams answered in the bottom of the frame behind an RBI groundout from Isabella Calagna to knot the game at 1-1.
- Bowdoin regained the lead in the top of the second with a two-run double from Rosie Panenka to harness a 3-1 advantage.
- Katie Ruffer laced an RBI single to right field to trim the gap to 3-2. The Polar Bears tried to tag on a deep fly in the fourth, but the connection of Alper-Ruffer-Calagna cut down the runner at home to preserve the 3-2 score.
- Trinity evened the score in the home half of the fifth as Kellie Schroffner lifted a triple to left field, and then touched home on and RBI single from Alper to even things at 3-3. Alper would come around to score on an RBI sac fly from Ruffer to put Trinity ahead 4-3.
- In the top of the sixth, Bowdoin tied the score at 4-4 with an RBI single from Panenka. The Polar Bears scored the game-winning run on an RBI single from Maddie Paschke to take the 5-4 victory.
- In the nightcap, the Bantams jumped on the Polar Bears early as two runs came around to score on an RBI knock from Makenna True, followed by RBI fielder's choice from Nelson to put Trinity ahead 3-0.
- Calagna touched home after a Bowdoin error on a fielder's choice from True, who scored on an RBI from O'Brien to push Trinity to a 5-0 lead. The Polar Bears trimmed the advantage to 5-2 in the fifth on a two-run single from Kaitlyn Fado.
- O'Brien struck again with a two-run triple to left-center, plating Avery Stadler and Nelson and rebuild a 7-2 lead for the Bantams. In the sixth, Reilly Parga hit a solo home run for the Polar Bears, but Trinity responded with an RBI knock from True to send the Bantams to the 8-3 victory.
Inside the Boxscore:
- The Bantams generated four runs on six hits with an error in the opener, followed by eight runs on nine hits with an error in the finale.
- Bowdoin logged five runs on nine hits, and then three runs on seven hits with four errors in game two.
- Alper tallied three hits with four runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, while Ruffer added two hits with two RBIs and a run scored.
- Schroffner, Nelson and Stadler all posted two hits with a run scored, O'Brien drove in three runs and True tacked on two RBIs.
- Shikar (6-6) took the loss in the opener, tossing a seven-inning complete game, allowing five runs on nine hits with a strikeout.
- Erin Connor (7-3) picked up the win in game two, scattering three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

- The Bantams will return to the diamond tomorrow for a NESCAC twinbill against Colby College at the Trinity Softball Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
- The squads have split the last six meetings, 3-3, with the Mules edging the Bantams in runs, 36-35.
