Long Ball Lifts Baseball Over Williams, 14-9

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team rallied past visiting Williams College, 14-9, in the opening game of a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) series at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Friday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Ephs drop to 6-9 and 1-3 in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  •  The Ephs struck first, plating a pair of runs on an RBI double from Sasha Palma and an RBI triple from Ryan Nakajima.
  • The Bantams answered in the bottom of the first with an RBI double from Aidan Stevenson, who scored on an RBI single from Andrew Park. Park touched home on a bases loaded walk to Luis Saldivia to give Trinity the 3-2 lead.
  • The Bantams added a pair of runs in the second inning behind a leadoff home run from Tyler Bernstein and an RBI double from Timmy Domizio to extend the lead to 5-2.
  • Williams rallied with a seven-run third inning, beginning with a two-run single from Dave Mosrie. Quinn Carlesimo drew a bases loaded walk, and then Oliver Rey was hit by a pitch to give the Ephs a 6-5 lead. Marcus Burrell cleared the bases with a three-run triple to put Williams on top 9-5.
  • The Bantams responded in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from Cole Mascolo and an RBI single from Dylan Schnitzer to trim the deficit to 9-7.
  • Trinity regained control in the bottom of the fourth as Saldivia laced an RBI triple, and then scored on an RBI double from Peter Beisel to knot the game at 9-9. Bernstein tacked on a two-run single to put Trinity ahead 11-9.
  • The Bantams delivered insurance runs with a solo home run from Domizio in the fifth, and a two-run blast from Andrew Park in the eighth to send Trinity to the 14-9 victory.
 
Inside the Boxscore:
  •  The Bantams banged out 14 runs on 17 hits, including eight extra-base hits, while the Ephs managed nine runs on nine hits.
  • Bernstein and Park both logged three RBIs on two hits, including a home run, while Domizio and Saldivia each knocked in two runs on three hits.
  • Stevenson tallied three hits with an RBI and a run scored, Schnitzer scored three times with an RBI, and Mascolo scored twice and drove in a run.
  • Will Friedman (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory with two scoreless innings of relief, while Matthew Limongelli delivered three scoreless frames to help seal the victory.

  • The Bantams and Ephs will be back on the field for a doubleheader at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium on Saturday. First pitch of game one is slated for Noon.
