No.10 Trinity Drop Elite Eight Game Against No.2 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Trinity College Women's Lacrosse team closed its season in the 2026 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Elite Eight with a 7-5 loss to host and No. 2 Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon.

The Bantams finish the season 14-6, making their first NCAA Quarterfinal appearance since 2018 and recording their highest win total since 2017 (17-5). Trinity also made its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, improving its all-time NCAA record to 37-16. Head Coach Katy Szymanski made her eighth NCAA appearance with the Bantams. The Cardinals advance to the NCAA Final Four with an 18-3 record.

How it Happened

  • The Bantams posted a strong opening quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 3-2. Despite an early goal from Wesleyan's Dylan Green, Trinity's Lily Acerra tossed in back-to-back goals to give the Bantams the lead. Wesleyan tied the score at 2-2 with three minutes remaining in the opening frame, but Trinity's Alex Lesko got around the Cardinals goalkeeper after receiving a feed from Kelsey Restivo to push the Bantams ahead in the final two minutes of the first.
  • The second quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams playing clean, controlled defense. The Cardinals held a slight edge in shots, 6-5, before breaking through at the 7:39 mark with a player-up goal from Bridget Horst to tie the score, 3-3. Zito recorded her first goal of the game off an assist from Sydney Aitkenhead to give Trinity its third lead change of the game at 4-3.
  • The field began to tilt in the Cardinals' favor in the third quarter, as Wesleyan scored three unanswered goals to take a 6-4 lead.
  • Wesleyan added its seventh goal of the game at the 12:11 mark in the fourth quarter, building its largest lead of the contest. Trinity's final goal came from Charlotte Troy at 11:18 off an assist from Lesko to cut the deficit back to two.
  • The final 11 minutes were quiet from both teams, with neither side able to find the back of the net. The Bantams went 0-for-2 on free-position shots in the final frame.
