Field Hockey's Late Push Not Enough Against No. 7 Ephs, 3-2 Final

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team battled No. 7 Williams College to the final minutes Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Robin L. Sheppard Field. The Bantams move to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Ephs improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC. 

How it Happened
  • Williams struck first just over four minutes into the opening quarter when Madeline Rowland found the back of the cage off an assist from Claire Colvin. Trinity responded just 35 seconds later, as junior Riley Harrington scored her third goal of the season at the 4:40 mark to even the contest at 1-1. 
  • The Ephs regained the advantage late in the first quarter when Sawyer Rowland converted off a feed from Hannah Herlihy with 25 seconds remaining, sending Williams into the second quarter with a 2-1 lead. 
  • Neither side found the cage during the second or third quarters. Junior goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz helped keep the Bantams within striking distance, making five saves in the second quarter and three more in the third as Williams continued to apply pressure. 
  • Williams extended its lead to 3-1 early in the fourth quarter when Colvin scored at the 46:46 mark off an assist from Haley McAuslin. The Bantams refused to go quietly, as sophomore Lindsay Rogers curled along the end line in circle slipping the ball past Ephs goalkeeper with 1:16 remaining in regulation for her second goal of the season, cutting the deficit to one. Trinity's late push came up just short as Williams held on for the 3-2 victory. 
  • Korkosz finished with a season-high 14 saves across 60 minutes in the cage. Harrington and Rogers each registered a goal on their lone shot, while junior Alison Gerber added Trinity's other shot on goal. Williams held a 25-5 advantage in shots, including 17-3 in shots on goal, and a 12-2 edge in penalty corners.
