Harrington’s Double-OT Heroics Lift Bantams, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team battled through nearly 80 minutes of action Sunday afternoon, defeating Skidmore College, 2-1, in double overtime at Robin L. Sheppard Field. Junior Riley Harrington buried the game-winner with 38 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to lift the Bantams to victory. Trinity improves to 2-2 overall, while the Thoroughbreds move to 1-2.

How It Happened
  • Skidmore struck first at the 8:08 mark of the opening quarter when Molly Van Vranken found the back of the cage for her second goal of the season, giving the Thoroughbreds an early 1-0 advantage.
  • The Bantams responded with increased offensive pressure in the second quarter, firing nine shots. With just 43 seconds remaining before halftime, Claire Griffith found the equalizer off a feed from Julia Lambert, registering her first goal of the season and sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
  • Trinity controlled much of the attack through the third quarter, holding Skidmore without a shot while recording eight of its own, but the Bantams were unable to break through.
  • The Thoroughbreds generated four shots in the fourth quarter, while Sydney Korkosz made a save to help keep the contest even and force overtime.
  • Trinity dominated the opening overtime period, outshooting Skidmore 6-1. Harrington and Sophie Watson combined for five shots, including four on goal, but Skidmore goalkeeper Lily Dreyfuss kept the Bantams off the board to force a second overtime.
  • The Bantams continued to pressure the Thoroughbreds in the second overtime, firing 10 shots and earning two penalty corners. With 38 seconds remaining, Harrington delivered the game-winner at the 79:22 mark, finding the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season and securing the 2-1 double-overtime victory.

  • Trinity held a commanding 42-18 advantage in shots, including a 26-8 edge in shots on goal. The Bantams added 16 of their 42 shots in overtime play.
  • The Bantams earned 12 penalty corners compared to five for Skidmore.

  • Skidmore's cage saw starter Nicole Sylvestri for the opening 30 minutes of play as she recorded seven saves, allowing one goal. Lily Dreyfuss took over for the Thoroughbreds for the remaining 49:22 minutes tallying 16 saves before the game winning goal was pushed passed.
