HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Trinity Tri-Match Saturday afternoon inside Ray Oosting Gymnasium, falling to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Bowdoin College in straight sets before bouncing back with a five-set victory over UMass Boston. The Bantams closed the day with a 6-2 overall record and sit 0-2 in conference play.
Match One: Bowdoin 3, Trinity 0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-18)
- The Bantams opened the day in a tightly contested first set against the Polar Bears, battling beyond 25 before Bowdoin escaped with the 27-25 win.
- The Polar Bears carried the momentum into the final two frames, taking the second, 25-20, and the third, 25-18, to secure the NESCAC sweep.
- Amy Boller led the Bantams offensively with 10 kills while adding 10 digs for a double-double. Emma Ewart followed with eight kills and eight digs, while Chloe Gentile added six kills and a team-high four blocks.
- Catalina Hendricks dished out 17 assists, and Scarlett Jago anchored the defense with 13 digs.
Match Two: Trinity 3, UMass Boston 2 (16-25, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 15-7)
- Trinity responded in the nightcap with a five-set battle against UMass Boston. After dropping the opening frame, 25-16, the Bantams answered by taking back-to-back sets, 25-19 and 25-21, to grab a 2-1 advantage. The Beacons forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth.
- The Bantams saved their best offensive performance for the deciding frame. Trinity recorded eight kills while hitting .294 and held UMass Boston to just two kills, cruising to a 15-7 fifth-set victory to close the tri-match on a high note.
- Ewart led the way with a match-high 16 kills, hitting .324 while adding five service aces and nine digs.
- Annette Schlunk and Maya Hall each added eight kills, with Schlunk collecting four aces and 10 digs and Hall adding four blocks.
- Hendricks totaled 17 assists and 15 digs, while Maya Pace added 13 assists. Jago led the Bantams with 18 digs.
Inside the Numbers
- Trinity dominated from the service line against UMass Boston, recording 13 aces compared to three from the Beacons.
- The Bantams also held a 9-3 advantage in blocks and an 86-83 edge in digs in the five-set victory.
- Ewart totaled 24 kills across the two matches, including 16 against UMass Boston.
- Boller posted a double-double against Bowdoin with 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Hendricks totaled 34 assists between the two matches, while Jago collected 31 digs.
