Field Hockey Blanks WPI, 2-0, in Non-Conference Clash

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team returned to the win column Wednesday night, shutting out Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 2-0, in non-conference action under the lights at Robin L. Sheppard Field. The Bantams improve to 4-3 overall, while the Engineers fall to 3-5 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Trinity controlled the offensive tempo from the opening whistle, holding WPI without a shot in the first quarter while firing seven attempts and earning four penalty corners.

  • The Bantams carried their one-goal lead into halftime after holding the Engineers to just one shot through the opening 30 minutes.
  • Trinity doubled its advantage in the third quarter following back-to-back penalty corners. Tatum Stickney ripped a shot from just inside the circle that found Riley Harrington near the stroke, who buried her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 40:12 mark to push the Bantams ahead, 2-0.
  • Harrington nearly struck again just over a minute later, but her attempt rang off the post.
  • Trinity continued to apply pressure throughout the fourth quarter, outshooting WPI 7-2 and earning five penalty corners as the Bantams closed out the 2-0 shutout.
