HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College Field Hockey suffered a 5-1 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) loss to in-state rival No. 13 Wesleyan University Wednesday evening at Robin L. Sheppard Field. The Bantams fall to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Cardinals improve to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC.
During Field Hockey Umpire Appreciation Week, the Bantams and Cardinals celebrated the dedicated umpires who make their sport possible. Both teams' captains showed their appreciation prior to the game, providing personalized cards to umpires Lauren Silva and John Courneen, thanking them for their invaluable impact on the sport of field hockey.
How It Happened
- Wesleyan jumped out to an early advantage, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. Leila Feldman opened the scoring at the 4:55 mark before Bridget FitzGerald doubled the Cardinals' lead less than five minutes later.
- The Cardinals extended their advantage to 3-0 in the second quarter after a pair of defensive saves from senior Fiona Murphy kept Wesleyan off the board before Teddy Tolbert collected the rebound and found the back of the cage at 22:47.
- Trinity answered just over three minutes later off a penalty corner. Alison Gerber connected with senior Tatum Stickney, who buried her second goal of the season to cut the Bantams' deficit to 3-1 entering halftime.
- Wesleyan added another tally late in the third quarter as FitzGerald recorded her second goal of the contest at 44:21, extending the Cardinals' lead to 4-1.
- The Cardinals closed the scoring just 38 seconds into the fourth quarter when Emily Smith found the back of the cage, securing the 5-1 final.

- Wesleyan held a 17-4 advantage in total shots and a 13-2 edge in shots on goal.
