Women's Soccer Blanks Saint Joseph, 6-0, To Kick Off Season

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team opened the 2026 campaign with a 6-0 drubbing of the University of Saint Joseph at Trinity College Soccer Field Saturday evening. The Bantams sit at 1-0 on the season, while the Blue Jays dipped to 0-2 overall.
 
What Happened:
  • The Bantams controlled the game wire-to-wire, dominating the shot column, 38-0, during the contest.
  • In the 8th minute of action, Trinity potted their first tally of the season as Ashley McSweeney knocked in a header off a corner from Kyra Charette to stake the Bantams to a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Makena Hammond netted her first collegiate goal, delivering the finish off a cross from Addie Covey to make it 2-0.
  • With 2:51 remaining in the first half, Sophia Simmons threaded a pass to Gabriella Petriello in the Blue Jays box, where Petriello fired a saved shot, but Savannah Nevins cleaned up the loose ball to give Trinity the 3-0 lead heading into the half.
  • In the 56th minute, Hammond struck again, converting off a goal line feed from Iva Carton to make it a 4-0 game. The Bantams final tallies came as Lauren Grattan delivered a header off a corner from Emma Almoney in the 67th minute, followed by Almoney firing home a pass from Lauren Hoh to send Trinity to the 6-0 win.
