Auburndale, Fla. - Senior co-captain C Sean Killeen
(Greenfield, Mass.) had two hits in each game and scored
the go-ahead run in the fifth inning of the second game to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 9/13-4/4 win over the Westfield State
College Owls in a Russmatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational
doubleheader this afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. Trinity,
ranked No. 2 in the nation, remains perfect at 7-0, while the Owls
fall to 4-4.
Trinity opened up a 4-0 lead in its first three offensive
innings of the day, including two in the third frame a two-run
homer by junior 1B Kent Graham (Longmeadow,
Mass.), but the Owls tied the game with four runs in the
bottom of the third on a two-out, grand slam by junior Ben
Campbell (Easthampton, Mass.). In the top of the
fifth inning, Killeen led off with a single to left field, advanced
to third on a double by Graham, and scored the eventual
game-winning run on a single to right field by junior OF
James Wood (Windham, N.H.). The Bantams
tacked on three more runs in the fifth and Killeen added an RBI
double in the sixth frame to put the game away.
Freshman righty James Ramsay (Belmont, Mass.)
allowed three hits and struck out eight in six innings to earn the
win in the nightcap. Sophomore SS Robert Martin
(Lowell, Mass.) went 3-for-4 and Graham finished 2-for-3
with two runs and three RBI for the Trinity offense, which pounded
out 27 hits in the doubleheader.
Batting in the bottom of fourth inning of the second game
and trailing, 3-2, the Bantams dropped five runs in the fourth and
added six more in the fifth and sixth frames. Junior OF
Jack Abbott (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished 3-for-4
with four RBI, while classmate Jason Simoni (Old Saybrook,
Conn.) earned his first career win on the mound
by allowing just a pair of unearned runs over five innings of
relief work.
