Trinity Baseball Pounds Westfield State, Stays Perfect

Auburndale, Fla. - Senior co-captain C Sean Killeen (Greenfield, Mass.) had two hits in each game and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning of the second game to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9/13-4/4 win over the Westfield State College Owls in a Russmatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational doubleheader this afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.  Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the nation, remains perfect at 7-0, while the Owls fall to 4-4.

Trinity opened up a 4-0 lead in its first three offensive innings of the day, including two in the third frame a two-run homer by junior 1B Kent Graham (Longmeadow, Mass.), but the Owls tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the third on a two-out, grand slam by junior Ben Campbell (Easthampton, Mass.).  In the top of the fifth inning, Killeen led off with a single to left field, advanced to third on a double by Graham, and scored the eventual game-winning run on a single to right field by junior OF James Wood (Windham, N.H.).  The Bantams tacked on three more runs in the fifth and Killeen added an RBI double in the sixth frame to put the game away.

Freshman righty James Ramsay (Belmont, Mass.) allowed three hits and struck out eight in six innings to earn the win in the nightcap.  Sophomore SS Robert Martin (Lowell, Mass.) went 3-for-4 and Graham finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI for the Trinity offense, which pounded out 27 hits in the doubleheader.

Batting in the bottom of fourth inning of the second game and trailing, 3-2, the Bantams dropped five runs in the fourth and added six more in the fifth and sixth frames.  Junior OF Jack Abbott (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, while classmate Jason Simoni (Old Saybrook, Conn.) earned his first career win on the mound by allowing just a pair of unearned runs over five innings of relief work.
