Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore hurler Kara Nilan
(Pittsfield, Mass.) allowed three hits and one run with
four strikeouts in six innings pitched to lead the visiting Bowdoin
College Polar Bears to a 6-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams
in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East
Division softball opener this afternoon. Trinity falls to 7-7
with its first loss in three games, while Bowdoin improves to 12-5
with its third win in a row. The teams will complete a
three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader. The time for
the first game tomorrow has been moved up from noon to 11:30 a.m.
Bowdoin struck early on a two-run homer by senior C
Allison Coleman (Lewiston, Maine) in the second
inning and added another run two batters later on a single and a
three-base error in the Bantam outfield. The Polar Bears
tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth frame on two
sacrifice flies and wild pitch. Trinity scored its first run
in the fourth inning on an RBI double by junior SS Patricia
Cipicchio (Southmont, N.C.). Junior Jessica
Tait (North Salem, N.Y.) manufactured another Bantam run
on a single, a stolen base, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by
senior co-captain Stacy Hatchcox (Woodinville,
Wash.). Sophomore Kristen Anderson (West Haven,
Conn.) took the loss in the circle for the Bantams.
