Orono, Maine - The Trinity College Bantam baseball team defeated
the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 5-3, on Friday afternoon in the
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East-opening
contest for both squads. The Bantams, ranked No. 4
in the nation, improve to 10-2, while the Polar Bears dip to
10-9. The game was played at Mahaney Diamond on the campus of
the University of Maine due to unplayable field conditions in
Brunswick. The teams will play a doubleheader in Orono on Saturday
beginning at noon.
Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three and a half innings
before Bowdoin was able to trim the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of
the fourth. The Bantams extended their lead with single runs in the
seventh and eighth inning en route to victory. Ryan Piacentini led
Trinity with three hits while Kent Graham, Alex LiDonni and
Alexander Rokicki each connected for doubles for the Bantams. Adam
Marquit also had an RBI single for the Polar Bears.
Jeremiah Bayer went the distance to collect the win for Trinity
while Pat Driscoll was tagged with the loss for Bowdoin.
