Tufts Softball Stays Perfect with 7-4 Win Over Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore pitcher Izzie Santone (Madison, Conn.) earned her tenth win of the season and freshman Lena Cantone (Southington, Conn.) hit a critical 2-RBI double to lead the undefeated Tufts University Jumbos to a 7-4 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division softball action this afternoon.  Tufts, ranked No. 8 in the nation, improves to a perfect 21-0 on the season and 6-0 in the league, while Trinity falls to 9-10 overall and 2-4 in the NESCAC.

Tufts jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning and increased their lead to 7-2 after a 3-run fifth.  The Bantams rallied in the sixth with two runs, loading the bases on three straight singles before a 2-RBI single by sophomore Nicole Nardella (Beverly, Mass.) to put the Bantams within three.  Santone delivered a crucial strikeout to end the Trinity rally, and the Jumbos were able to escape the inning, before closing it out in the seventh.
