Hartford, Conn. – Junior OF Mark Young (Chester,
N.J.) went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs, and three
RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 16-7 win over the
visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Bears in baseball action
this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No.
9 in the nation, improves to 14-4, while the Bears fall to 7-15.
Freshman 2B Mike Massaro (Sewell, N.J.) gave
Coast Guard a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to left field in the top
of the first inning, but Trinity scored on a leadoff walk by Young,
a single, and a fielder's choice to tie the score in the
bottom of the inning. Young smacked a two-run double in
Trinity's seven-run second frame, and senior OF Matt
Sullivan (North Reading, Mass.) cleared the bases with a
two-out, three-run double later in the inning to break the game
open.
Six Bantams collected two hits, including freshman DH
Alex Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) who added a
double, and three RBI, and senior OF James Wood (Windham,
N.H.) who homered with three runs scored and two
RBI. Massaro finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the
Bears. Sophomore Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.)
started and pitched three innings in a predetermined slate of seven
Bantam hurlers to earn the win on the mound.
