Young Leads Trinity Baseball To Win Against Coast Guard

Hartford, Conn. – Junior OF Mark Young (Chester, N.J.) went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs, and three RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 16-7 win over the visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Bears in baseball action this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 9 in the nation, improves to 14-4, while the Bears fall to 7-15.

Freshman 2B Mike Massaro (Sewell, N.J.) gave Coast Guard a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to left field in the top of the first inning, but Trinity scored on a leadoff walk by Young, a single, and a fielder's choice to tie the score in the bottom of the inning.  Young smacked a two-run double in Trinity's seven-run second frame, and senior OF Matt Sullivan (North Reading, Mass.) cleared the bases with a two-out, three-run double later in the inning to break the game open.

Six Bantams collected two hits, including freshman DH Alex Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) who added a double, and three RBI, and senior OF James Wood (Windham, N.H.) who homered with three runs scored and two RBI.  Massaro finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Bears. Sophomore Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.) started and pitched three innings in a predetermined slate of seven Bantam hurlers to earn the win on the mound.
