Medford, Mass. - Sophomore 3B Sam Sager (Cranston, R.I.) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in game one, and the Jumbos blasted four home runs in the second inning of game two to lead Tufts University to a 5/10-4/4 doubleheader sweep against the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon at Huskins Field.  The Jumbos are now 7-1 atop the NESCAC East and have won 13 of 14 to improve to 17-3 overall. They stopped an eight-game losing streak against Trinity. The Bantams fall to 14-6 overall and 6-5 in the NESCAC East for third place.  Tufts and Trinity will make up the third game of their NESCAC East Division series at a later date.  Friday's game was rained out and yesterday's doubleheader was played today.

Trinity had a 4-1 lead through five and a half innings of game one. Sophomore Alex LiDonni (Norwood, Mass.) singled home a run in the fourth and freshman 1B Brad Runowicz (Cheshire, Conn.) hit a two-run home run in the fifth. The Jumbos scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by junior 2B Frank Petroskey (Dallas, Texas), but the Bantams plated an unearned run of their own in the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tufts rallied to tie the score at 4-4 by scoring three times. Sophomore 1B Matt Collins (Hopkinton, Mass.) drove home two runs with a single to right. Originally scheduled as a seven-inning game, both teams put runners in scoring position in the extra innings, before Sager won it for Tufts with his second home run of the season to lead off the 10th.

Collins, Petroskey, and junior SS David LeResche (St. Louis, Mo.) each had two hits for Tufts in the first game. Junior reliever Ed Bernstein (Foxborough, Mass.) hurled four shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out eight to get the win.  LiDonni, freshman 3B Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.), and senior RF James Wood (Windham, N.H.) all had two hits out of the top three spots in the Trinity order. Sophomore Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.), who also pitched well in long relief, took the loss after giving up three hits and a run with four strike outs in 2.2 innings.

Sager picked up where he left off, hitting a two-run double in the bottom of the first in game two. The Jumbo bats then exploded in the second, with senior catcher Al Perry (Danvers, Mass.), junior DH Ben Walkley (Trumbull, Conn.), junior RF Chase Rose (Scottsdale, Ariz.), and junior CF David Orlowitz (Wakefield, Mass.) hitting home runs. Tufts led 9-0.

Jumbo sophomore lefty Kevin Gilchrist (Medford, Mass.) held the Bantams to two runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts in six innings. Wood drove home Trinity's first run with a single in the third. Walkley added an RBI single in the third to make it 10-1 Tufts. Sophomore catcher Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) had an RBI single in the sixth for Trinity, and Rogers ripped a two-run pinch-hit double in the seventh.

Walkley finished the seven-inning game two 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Sager was 2 for 3 with two RBI, while junior LF Ian Goldberg (Lake Forest, IL) went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI.  The Bantams out-hitTufts 11-10 in the game, led by a 4-or-4 performance from Wood.
