Mansfield, Conn. - Senior RHP Bill Musson (Wethersfield,
Conn.) allowed one run and three hits with 13 strikeouts
in seven innings to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University
Warriors to an 8-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in
baseball action this evening at Eastern Baseball Stadium.
Trinity, ranked No. 6 in New England and No. 16 in the nation, fals
to 14-7 with its third loss in a row, while the Warriors, ranked
No. 4 in New England and No. 17 nationally, improves to 20-8 with
their first win in three games.
Eastern Connecticut took a 3-0 lead after one inning on four
walks and RBI singles by junior OF Jim Schult (Wappingers
Falls, N.Y.) and Andrew Dewing (Swampscott,
Mass.), and led, 7-0, after four innings thanks to four
walks, three hit batsman, a balk, and a two-run homer by
Dewey. Trinity scored its run in the fifth frame on an RBI
single by freshman SS Stephen Howard (Cheshire,
Conn.). Bantam rookie RHP Ben Goldberg
(Plainview, N.Y.) struck out three and allowed just one
hit in the final two innings on the hill. Junior LHP
Bill Roveto (Windsor, Conn.) did the same for
Eastern Connecticut in the final two innings, while Schult finished
3-for-5 at the plate for the Warrior offense.
