Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Katherine Poulos
(Wilton, Conn.) threw a three-hit shutout and junior
Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) followed up
with a six-hit shutout to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an
8/4-0/0 doubleheader sweep against the visiting Manhattanville
College Valiants in softball action this afternoon. Trinity
improves to 17-8 and has won 12 of their last 13 games, while the
Valiants slip to 15-12-1.
In a 0-0 game, Tait got things started for the Bantams, sparking
a five-run third inning with an RBI double. Junior 2B
Katherine Stoltenberg (Montgomery, N.J), and
first-year 3B Caroline Blanchard (Norwich, Conn.)
followed up with an RBI apiece before junior co-captain 1B
Nicole Nardella (Beverly, Mass.) would send one
out of the park to plate two runs. Poulos kept the Valiants
bats quiet, striking out six in six innings of work. The
Bantams plated three in the bottom half of the sixth inning, capped
by a game-ending RBI double by Blanchard, who finished the game 4-4
with two doubles to lead the Bantam offense.
In game two, Anderson was able to match Poulos'
performance, keeping the Valiants off the scoreboard to pick up her
seventh complete game and second shutout of the season.
Both offenses were held scoreless until the bottom of the
fifth inning, when Stoltenberg and Blanchard would each knock in a
run, before Nardella would blast her second homerun of the day, and
her team-leading eighth of the season.
First-year Jessica Van Galen (Bedford Hills,
N.Y.) and junior Nicole Bifulco (Howard Beach,
N.Y.) picked up three hits apiece in the doubleheader to
lead the Manhatanville offense. Senior Elyssa
Michaels (Katonah, N.Y.) went the distance in game one for
the Valiants, while first-year Michelle Ferlito
