Hartford, Conn. – Senior OF James Wood (Windham,
N.H.) went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, three runs,
and three RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 13-5 win
over the visiting Western Connecticut State University Colonials in
baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 25 in the
nation, improves to 16-8, while the Colonials fall to 14-18.
Trinity broke open a 1-1 game with a five-run fourth inning
highlighted by a three-run homer by freshman 1B Brad
Runowicz (Cheshire, Conn.). Western Connecticut
rallied for three scores in the top of the fifth frame on a solo
homer by senior Dan Baccaro (Berlin, Conn.) and
RBI singles by classmates John DiGiovanni (Waterbury,
Conn.) and senior Jeff Gordon (Milford,
Conn.) to cut the Bantam lead to 6-4. Trinity scored
seven times over the next three innings off three different Western
Connecticut pitchers to put the game away.
The teams combined for 29 hits and 25 runners left on base and
used 14 pitchers between them. Bantam freshmen Alex
Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Stephen Howard
(Cheshire, Conn.) each had three hits, while Howard added
a double and his first career home run. Baccaro and freshman
Conor Bierfeldt (Torrington, Conn.) each had three
hits for Western Connecticut.
