Hartford, Conn. – Freshman 3B Stephen Rogers
(Watertown, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI single during
a three-run third inning for Trinity and classmate Alex
Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) added a two-run double in the
third to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-3 win over the
visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in the first game (7 innings)
of a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East
Division baseball doubleheader this afternoon. Freshman RHP
Oliver Van Zant (Westport, Conn.) allowed one run
and five hits with 11 strikeouts over seven innings to earn a 4-1
win for the Polar Bears in the second game (9 innings).
Trinity, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 4 in the nation, is
now 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the NESCAC East, while Bowdoin, ranked
No. 4 in New England, ups its season mark to 15-4 overall and 2-1
in the division and takes two of three for the weekend's three-game
series.
Sophomore LHP James Ramsey (Belmont, Mass.)
withstood six walks and allowed four hits and three runs in 6.1
innings to take a win on the mound for the Bantams in the first
game, while classmate Edward Donovan (Milton,
Mass.) struck out one of the two batters he faced for a
two-out save. Sophomore Jordan Edgett (Lynn,
Mass.) had two hits in each game for Bowdoin.
