Hartford, Conn. – Senior Derek Anderson (Great
Falls, Va.) pitched into the eighth inning and freshman
Brad Runowicz (Cheshire, Conn.) had a big day at
the plate as the Trinity College Bantams hung on for a 10-7 victory
over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this
afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 9 in
the nation, improves to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC, while
the Bobcats fall to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Trinity held a comfortable 8-1 lead before Bates would put up
six unearned runs in the eighth inning, started by a 2-RBI single
by senior Josh Linscott (Portland, Maine) and
capped by an RBI single by junior Noah Lynd (Meriden,
N.H.), a rally that would cut the Trinity lead to
8-7. In the bottom half of the inning, Trinity gained some
breathing space thanks to an RBI single by sophomore pinch-hitter
Luke Auger (Avon, Conn.) and a deep RBI double by
sophomore pinch-hitter Andrew Koris (Milton,
Mass.). Sophomore Edward Donovan (Milton,
Mass.), who has yet to allow an earned run this season,
worked a perfect ninth to notch his third save of the year.
Anderson allowed just one earned run on seven hits in 7.2
innings, and added seven strikeouts, to improve to 2-1 on the
season. Runowicz was a perfect 3-3 from the plate, including
two walks, three runs and two RBI. Freshman Stephen
Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) collected three hits for the
second straight game, and improves his league-leading batting
average to .526.
Bobcats starter junior Ryan Heide (Medfield,
Mass.) suffered his first loss of the season, falling to
4-1 after allowing six earned runs in 6.2 innings. Junior
tri-captain Chris Burke (Andover, Mass.) and Lynd
highlighted the Bobcats offense with two hits apiece.
Trinity will face Bates in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at
