Hartford, Conn. – First-year catcher Olivia Berry (Quincy, Mass.) homered in each game, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs and six RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9/9-2/1 doubleheader sweep against the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs in softball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 9-5 and extends its winning streak to four games with its fifth and six consecutive victories over the Lord Jeffs.  Amherst drops to 7-6.

In the opener, Trinity broke open a 2-2 game in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore SS Caroline Blanchard (Norwich, Conn.) led off with a double and scored the go-ahead run on a two-RBI double by classmate Amelia Mostovoy (San Francisco, Calif.).  Berry added her first homer of the day and of her career to give Trinity five runs in the inning.  The Bantams added two insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI single by senior co-captain 1B Nicole Nardella (Beverly, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly.  Amherst had taken a 2-0 lead in the fourth frame on a bases-loaded walk by senior tri-captain OF Jillian Masi (Stamford, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly, but Trinity tied it in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Berry.  Trinity junior RHP Lindsay Gibbons (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned the win in the circle with three innings of scoreless relief.  Amherst sophomore Reilly Horan (Darien, Conn.) was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Blanchard went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Mostovoy finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

The Bantams jumped all over Amherst in the second game with runs in all but the first inning, ending it early with four runs in the fifth to enact the mercy rule at 9-1.  Sophomore OF Kerry McCarthy (Andover, Mass.) belted a two-run double and later scored during the game-ending Bantam rally.  Trinity senior RHP Kristen Anderson improved to 4-2 with a two-hitter, while McCarthy finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and rookie Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) hit her first collegiate home run.
