Northampton, Mass. -The Smith College softball team was limited
to four hits in a 13-0 loss to the visiting Trinity College Bantams
this afternoon. Trinity improves to 12-6 with its third
straight win, while Smith drops to 1-20.
After Kayla Kiers set the Bantams out in order in the opening
frame, Smith had its best chance to score in the bottom of the
inning. After Tessa Clark reached on a fielder's choice,
Kaitlyn O'Brien smacked a single to left center that put runners on
first and second with two out, but Chelsie Biluck struck out to end
the inning. Trinity senior starter Kristen Anderson (West
Haven, Conn.) then set down 13 consecutive Pioneers, while the
Bantams got all the runs they would need on a two-RBI single by
sophomore OF Amelia Mostovoy (San Francisco, Calif.) in the
second, and made it 3-0 when freshman CF Christina Galese
(Fairfield, N.J.) reached on an error and scored. A
three-run homer from fellow rookie Abigail Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.)
increased the Bantam lead to 6-0 in the fifth, and Trintiy put the
game out of reach by sending 12 batters to the plate in the seventh
and scoring seven runs. Kiers struck out seven in a
complete game effort in the circle for Smith, and Anderson struck
out five and allowed four hits.
