Clermont, Fla. - Five players recorded multi-hit games to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 13-5 win over Washington & Jefferson, before Trinity fell to Luther College, ranked No. 1 in the country, 14-1, in the second of two games today at the National Training Center. Trinity moves to 5-3 overall on the year.
Sophomore Christina Galese (Fairfield, N.J.) recorded four hits to go along with three runs and two stolen bases. Junior Kerry McCarthy (Andover, Mass.) also tallied four hits for the Bantams in the opening game, adding two runs and an RBI. Junior Caroline Blanchard (Norwich, Conn.) had three hits including a triple, three RBI and a run while sophomore Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) also posted a three-hit game, including a double two runs, two RBI, and two walks. First-year Paige Deley (Coraopolis, Pa.) and classmate Sadie Marek (Butler, Pa.) had two hits apiece to lead the Washington & Jefferson offense.
In Game 2, Trinity grabbed a 1-0 lead and senior co-captain Katherine Poulos (Wilton, Conn.) shut down Luther in the first with two strikeouts and a groundout. The Luther bats came alive, and took over the game in the second inning, posting a six-spot, and putting Trinity in too big of a hole to recover. Senior co-captain Lauran Snyder (San Pedro, Calif.) led the Luther offense with two doubles a walk, and three RBI, while sophomore Becca Girvan (Maple Grove, Minn.) struck out six Bantams and allowed just two hits en route to the five-inning win.
