Trinity Softball Loses Pair At Eastern Connecticut

Willimantic, Conn. - The Eastern Connecticut State University Warrior softball team posted a 5/9-0/6 doubleheader sweep over the visiting Trinity College Bantams at Eastern Field this afternoon.  The Warriors, winners of 18 straight games, are now 19-1, while Trinity drops to 8-11.

Trinity sophomore CF Christina Galese (Fairfield, N.J.) had two hits in the first game, while junior 1B Kerry McCarthy (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Abby Ostrom (Carlsile, Mass.) were both 3-for-4 in the nightcap.  Ostrom capped off a three-run sixth with an RBI single to pull Trinity within one run at 7-6, before the Warriors answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Warrior senior Molly Rathbun earned her fifth shutout of the season in the opener, then struck out two in the seventh inning of the nightcap for her third save to preserve the first collegiate win of freshman Erin Miller. In the doubleheader, Rathbun fanned 13 in eight shutout innings and allowed five hits and one walk for Eastern, which ranked No. 4 nationally.
