Box Score 2 Hartford, Conn. – First-year Miranda
Riendeau-Card (Bowdoinham, Maine) hit two homeruns in Game
Two and junior Amelia Mostovoy (San Francisco,
Calif.) collected three this, including a clutch
fifth-inning single, in Game One, as the Trinity College Bantams
picked up two wins (6/5-1/4) over the visiting Wesleyan University
Cardinals in NESCAC softball action this afternoon on Campus
Field. Trinity improved to 10-14 on the season, while
Wesleyan drops to 8-19 on the year.
The afternoon ended with an exclamation point, as Wesleyan
crawled their way back from a 5-1 hole, to cut the lead to 5-4 in
the seventh inning. With two outs and a runner at second
base, a hard-hit single to center by sophomore Marissa
Davila (West Windsor, N.J.) looked like it might tie the
game at 5-5, but Trinity sophomore CF Christina Galese
(Fairfield, N.J.) scooped the ball and made a pinpoint
throw to home plate for the out to end the game.
Senior Lindsey Gibbons (Basking Ridge, N.J.)
earned two wins on the mound today, doubling her season's win
total to a 4-0 record. In Game One, Gibbons pitched three
innings, allowing just one base runner and no runs to earn the win,
before going seven innings in Game Two, surviving the late Wesleyan
threat to seal her second win of the afternoon.
Trinity and Wesleyan were knotted at 1-1 in the fifth inning of
Game One, but with one out, sophomore Abigail Ostrom
(Carlisle, Mass.) singled and Riendeau-Card doubled,
before Mostovoy came up with a clutch two-run single to put Trinity
up for good, snapping an eight-game losing skid for the
Bantams.
Wesleyan senior Alexis Kral (Northvale, N.J.)
led the Wesleyan offense, collecting four hits and four RBI on the
afternoon, while junior Allee Beatty (Reading,
Conn.) and Davila picked up three hits apiece in Game
Two. First-year Haylle Reidy (Old Saybrook,
Conn.) came up with some clutch pitching, escaping several
jams early in Game One, before Trinity's big fifth
inning.
