Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. – Rookie pitcher Hannah King
(Kennebunk, Me.) allowed just one run in 12 innings of
work as the Trinity College Bantams topped William Paterson
College, 7-1, and New England College, 13-0, in softball action
today at the United States Training Center. Trinity improves
to 3-1 with their second and third straight wins on their annual
spring training Florida trip.
King's strong day on the mound was highlighted by a
five-inning two-hit shutout in just her fourth career collegiate
start, coming against New England College. The first six outs
recorded in the game were by way of the strikeout, and King went on
to finish the game with eleven strikeouts.
In the earlier game, King was one out away from a seven-inning
shutout, until William Paterson sophomore Keanna Ross (Pine
Hill, N.J.) picked up a two-out pinch hit RBI single to
plate teammate Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge,
N.J.), who had started the inning with a pinch hit
single. The top of the Trinity lineup had already put the
game out of reach, as the top four batters in the lineup scored
seven Trinity runs throughout the game.
Senior co-captain Caroline Blanchard (Norwich,
Conn.) and Erica Correia (Glen Rock,
N.J.) picked up five hits apiece in the doubleheader,
including a triple and two doubles, while junior Abigail
Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) recorded four hits and two walks
in seven plate appearances, scoring six runs to lead the Trinity
offense. Correia knocked in five RBI, and hit two doubles
today.
Trinity returns to action at 9 a.m. in a game vs. Calvin in
Florida. Game updates will be provided at
