Michie (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) put on a duel at Crafts Field, with an
error hurting the Mules as the Bantams took a 1-0 victory in
New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) East Division softball action this
afternoon. Trinity moves to 9-16 overall and 2-5 in the
conference, while the Mules drop to 8-12 overall and 2-5 in the
league. The two teams will play again at Crafts Field in a
doubleheader at noon Saturday.
King allowed just one hit, struck out three, and walked one in
her complete game. Michie took the tough loss without allowing an
earned run, gave up just two hits, struck out four, and walked
four. Trinity senior tri-captain 1B Kerry McCarthy (Andover,
Mass.) led off the fourth inning with a single, moved to second on
an outfield error, took third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Olivia
Berry (Quincy, Mass.), and scored on an RBI groundout to third by
sophomore 2B Miranda Riendeau-Card (Bowdoinham, Maine).
Both pitchers were strong as the game wore on and both helped
themselves with their defense, with Michie getting a putout and two
assists in the fifth inning. In the Colby sixth, King nabbed a line
shot, had an assist on a grounder back to the mound, and registered
a strikeout. Trinity junior C Abigail Ostrom (Carlisle,
Mass.) had Trinity's other hit, while freshman 3B Erica Correa
(Glen Rock, N.J.) walked twice. Lauren Becker (Falls Church,
Va.) had Colby's lone hit, a single in the second inning, and had
the walk in the fifth inning.
