Box Score 2 Danbury, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantam softball
team earned a doubleheader split with the Western Connecticut State
University Colonials at Westside Field this evening. The
Bantams captured the opener, 2-1, before the Colonials worked out a
5-3 victory in the nightcap. Trinity moves to 12-17, while
Western Connecticut is now 16-19.
In the opener, Trinity freshman hurler Hannah King (Kennebunk,
Maine) went the distance to earn the victory and is now 10-9 from
the center circle. She allowed four hits, one earned run,
stuck out four and walked two. The Bantams broke a 1-1 tie in
the fourth inning following an RBI double from junior OF Christina
Galese (Fairfield, N.J.) which scored senior tri-captain 1B Kerry
McCarthy (Andover, Mass.). Bantam senior OF Amelia Mostovoy
(San Francisco, Calif.) drove in sophomore 2B Miranda Riendeau-Card
(Bowdoinham, Maine) to tie the score at 1-1 in the second
inning. Galese and freshman Elizabeth McQuaid (Lowell, Mass.)
led Trinity's hitting attack with a pair of hits each. Emily
Cintorino (Bristol, Conn.) suffered the loss for Western and is now
5-6 in her first season. She allowed both runs on four hits,
struck out four and walked two over three and two-thirds
innings.
In the nightcap, Stephanie Moss (Brookfield, Conn.) improved to 5-4
on the season after allowing three runs, two of them earned on six
hits over five innings. She allowed one walk. Alexandra
Sabith (Meriden, Conn.) earned her second save of the year after
retiring the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings for the
winners. She struck out four of the six Bantams to come to
the plate. Alison Russo (Danbury, Conn.) was 3-for-3 to head
the Colonials' nine-hit attack. McQuaid went 2-for-3 and
drove in a run for Trinity in the nightcap, while King tossed 4.2
innings of scoreless relief for the Bantams.
