Trinity Golf Dominates Bill Detrick Invitational

Newington, Conn. - Senior William Burchill (East Walpole, Mass.) carded a two-round score of 144, consistently shooting a 72 on each day, to win medalist honors by two strokes over junior teammate Jeff Durkin (Scituate, Mass.) and lead the Trinity College Bantams to first place as a team in the Bill Detrick Golf Invitational at Indian Hill Country Club this weekend.  Trinity totaled 296 on Saturday and 294 on Sunday for a weekend sum of 590, which was 26 shots better than Trinity's "B" squad in second place at 616 and 32 better than third-place Nichols at 622.

Burchill trailed Worcester State's Jackson Davis by one stroke for first place after the first round, but Davis fell from a 71 to an 82 in the second round.  Durkin was also consistent with a 73 each round, while senior Nick Buenaventura (Weston, Mass.) was fourth overall at 149 (75+74) and classmate Donald Hunt (Andover, Mass.) finished tied for seventh at 151 (78+77).  Babson's Vijay Vasandani was fourth overall at 148 and Nicholas Smith, from Elms, tied Trinity "B" senior Thomas Romano (Farmington, Conn.) for fifth at 150.  Several individuals had to finish their opening round this morning due to rain delays yesterday.
